This was a first attempt at creating foliage in Bryce 4.0. It may be crude, but it was meant to be. Since the fiery leaves are made of a single volumetric sphere which is mostly transparent, the individual leaves on each branch are actually all part of just one object. This drastically reduces the number of polygons required, which in turn reduces the rendering time.
